A quick recap of the format: we had nine teams of four athletes, with each team appointing one athlete to surf one of the four wave types - T3 (intermediate), T4, T6, and Barrels.
Each 30 minute heat saw one surfer from each team duke it out on the relevant setting. The scoring and rotation within each heat with our standard format of best two waves of three counting towards the score.
The winning team in each heat scored 9 points down to 1 point for the 9th team. The four heats were added up for a score out of 36 (9x4). The team with the highest total score winning.
Each team also came up with a team name, with a prize given to the most popular.

Melbourne’s winter delivered - sideways rain, cross-shore gusts, 1 degree real feel. Only the hardcore MBC following can still manage to fire a BBQ and add some heat back into the water.

We kicked off the night with T3 and Concrete Cowboy Josh Norman taking out the heat. MOJO’s Oliver Maclatchy showed us his backhand is just as strong as his forehand winning T4. Rubber Duckie Drew Vierdag power surfed his way to the top of T6. Steven O’Brien from the Wet Dream showed us textbook barrels winning the heat and Flowstate Best Effort award. By the end of the night, a countback was needed for the tie break between the Concrete Cowboys and the Wet Dream! With a total point score of 47.03 the Concrete Cowboys were able to only just hold off The Wet Dream with a points score total 06 46.21. While second and third spots were neck in neck, there was a clear number 1…
Congratulations to the winning teams

Tullatubbies take gold!
The stoke was high and the water was warm enough to not wear booties and gloves. What a change a month can make!

This month’s teams event on the left was an epic battle, filled with thrills and plenty of spills…that barrel setting is unforgiving! Kicking us off was our legends on T3, with Josh Norman taking out the win yet again, and Ying close on his heels in second place! Fresh from Indo, Glen Cairns showed us what he learned at Beng Beng, taking out the T4 comp in a hail of spray. With a lot of pre-game hype coming from Jim at the BBQ, no one should have been surprised that Wave Wizzer Tyler took out T6, fins flying. Finally the Pool Penguin Chris Tremewen dominated a fierce barrels session that also saw Henry Munro hit it in a body board, yeew!
Congratulations to the winning teams
#1: Tullatubbies
#2: Pool Penguins
#3: Ex Presidents
Best name: Tullatubbies, with special mention for the Tulla Tublords (there was a bit of confusion there with two such sick names).
Massive thanks to our volunteers and cheer squad on the night, we couldn’t run these events without each one of you.
